This is Part 2 of Discovering Your Life Message. You can read Part 1 first, if you haven’t already.
So how do you find out what your life message is? First of all, your life message is your testimony. Your testimony includes the story of how you got saved, and any events of divine intervention (God showing up) before or after your salvation. Your testimony can be so rich that it takes a big book to cover everything that God did for you! It may contain accounts of provision, blessing, deliverance, breakthroughs, healings, miracles, etc. etc.
It is just like Psalm 126:1-3
When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, And we are glad.
Next, figure out what issues in the world you are passionate about. What kind of ministry are you most interested in? Some people are involved in worship. Others, in missions. Others, on the streets ministering to homeless people. Others, reaching students on college campuses.
If you have a chunk of time and resources that you can use to help others, what would you do?
Your ministry is your message. And God has given you special gifts and specific anointings to carry out your mission in life. Sometimes, we don’t know what gifts we possess. We need to find out what we have and activate them!
And, most importantly, reflect on what your favorite verses in the Bible are. Your life message has to be based in Scripture. Your life message has to be rooted and grounded in the Word of God.
What are your “life verses?” Which Bible verses do you meditate on the most (and have committed to memory)? What Bible stories do you love the most? What doctrine or teaching had the greatest impact on you? What Bible characters do you identify with?
Finally, after finishing this thorough self-examination, try to put down your life message on paper in a single sentence. It can be “My life message is to reveal to the world that _________”
It can be as simple as “God loves you!”
For me, I want to show the world that God is real, God can heal you, and God cares about you.
From this simple sentence of your general life message, see how long you can preach on it! See if you can preach 30 minutes on your life message. Then, see if you can preach one hour, two hour, or even multiple sessions! You don’t need a big audience to preach to, just find a couple family members or friends and preach to them.
It would be great if you can get to the point where you can preach a whole conference on your life message, or write a book on your life message.
When you write, you can start off by writing your testimony tract first. A brief note to hand out to people on the streets. Then God can increase your writing over time.
You will find out, once you start pouring out a little, God will give you more and more to pour out! What you think is a couple drops to pour out to the world, may turn into a mighty river as you step out in faith and obedience. Nothing will happen until you open your mouth first, or write that first sentence.
So, I encourage you to discover your life message, and share it with the world!
